Honduras has positioned itself as the leading watermelon exporter in Central America and the U.S. market, according to figures from the National Statistics Institute of Honduras.

It is estimated that in 2012, around 5,700 containers of watermelon were exported to the U.S. and Europe, which generated about five million dollars in foreign exchange, ie about 100 million lempiras.

The United States has become the main destination of watermelons from Honduras, where each container is priced at USD 14,000.
