STEP BY STEP: MARCH FOR SOVEREIGN COUNTRIES, AUTONOMOUS WOMEN
For over 200 km across the country of Honduras and ending at the National Congress in Tegucigalpa, citizens have come together, walking in unison to demand a return to democracy, an end to violence, for people's sovereignty and for respect of women's rights + autonomy. Women have joined this march, from far corners of the state and as one, are demanding their autonomy, respect for their rights and that their voices be heard - today, on International Women's Day, these courageous women are protesting in the capitol.
JASS has supported the women throughout the march and today, is asking for donations and support for the women who have stayed in Tegucigalpa to protest the violence they are facing.

MESOAMERICAN WOMEN HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS DEMAND RESPECT & EFFECTIVE PROTECTION
In a statement released on March 6, 2013, the Mesoamerican WHRD Initiative (coordinated by JASS Mesoamerica) called on member states attending the 57th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women to take effective steps to eradicate violence against women human rights defenders and to adopt measures to end the impunity that persists in the cases filed of violence against WHRD in the region. PRESS CONFERENCE: A STRENGTHENED INTER-AMERICAN HUMAN RIGHST SYSTEM FUNDAMENTAL TO ENDING VIOLENCE AGAINST WHRD
Collaborating with 7 national and local organizations and networks in Mexico, JASS spearheaded a press conference in Mexico City on March 7, 2013 to call attention to the reform process that can potentially debilitate the reach and effectiveness of the Inter-American Human Rights System (IAHRS) and highlight the growing violence faced by WHRD in Mexico.
Calling on the Mexican government to take a firm stand in support of the IAHRS and of the work of women activists, JASS and 4 allies from Tlachinollan, Mesa de Mujeres Ciudad Juarez, Centro ProdH, Organizaci?n del Pueblo Ind?gena Me?phaa (OPIM) gave voice to the concerns of Mexican women activists if some of the reforms were to pass - especially in regards to the precautionary measures process. In addition, JASS and the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL) collaborated with the Nobel Women's Initiative to release a letter from Jody Williams, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and Chair of the Initiative, in support of the
IAHRS and its vital contribution to the protection of women human rights defenders in Mexico and Central America.
