"Revolutionary Medicine: A Story of the First Garifuna Hospital" is a new feature-length documentary that tells the story of the struggle to defend the first free and holistic healthcare system on Honduras’ Caribbean coast. Built and administered by the Afro-Caribbean Garifuna communities it serves, the hospital stands as an alternative to the country’s increasingly privatized healthcare system.

In 2009, the hospital was raided by the Honduran military in conjunction with coup d’état that ousted then-President Manuel Zelaya. Why was a hospital the target of such an action? Canadian journalist and filmmaker Jesse Freeston shines light on this question and others. His grassroots reporting on Honduran social movements fighting for democratization and social justice has been unparalleled (among international journalists) during the post-2009 coup period in Honduras.
